Soup has the amazing ability to make us feel happy, hence the reason we often refer to it as a comfort food.  This cream of mushroom soup is one of our family favorites and I know it will be yours too.

It all begins with the creamy, bold flavors of marsala wine, minced garlic, fresh thyme, and onions that have been sautéed in warm melted butter.  These flavors along with other seasonings bring burst of flavor to the mushrooms and creamy sensation bite after bite.

Ingredients for cream of mushroom soup

  • butter
  • olive oil
  • medium onion, chopped
  • garlic, minced
  • mushrooms, sliced
  • dried thyme
  • marsala or white cooking wine
  • cornstarch or flour
  • chicken broth
  • garlic salt
  • beef bouillon
  • heavy cream
  • fresh thyme

Creamy soup just has something a little extra in the taste and texture and that is why I love to make them.  This crock pot cheesy ham and potato soup is another creamy sensational recipe that is sure to become a family favorite.

How to make cream of mushroom soup

  1.   2. Sprinkle cornstarch (or flour) over the mushroom mixture and mix until evenly coated.  Cook for 1 minute. Can you freeze cream of mushroom soup?

Yes.  Make sure to allow it to cool completely, then store it in an air tight container in your freezer for up to 1 month.

Thickening this cream of mushroom soup recipe is very simple.  Just add cornstarch or flour to the stockpot with the mushrooms in it and mix to combine.  Cook for 1 minute and then add your liquid.  Allow for most of the liquid to evaporate then add in your broth and bring to a boil.  The soup will turn out creamy and delicious.

  • 24 oz container mushrooms sliced
  • 3 tsp dried thyme
