Soup has this amazing way of lifting your spirits, which is why we call it comfort food. This Cream of Mushroom Soup is one of our family’s absolute favorites—simple to make, full of earthy flavor, and perfectly creamy in every spoonful.

It all starts with butter, onions, garlic, and fresh thyme sautéed until fragrant, followed by a splash of marsala wine that adds a deep, rich note. Stir in the mushrooms, and the magic happens—each bite creamy, savory, and loaded with cozy flavor.

Ingredients for Cream of Mushroom Soup

  • Butter

  • Olive oil

  • Medium onion, chopped

  • Garlic, minced

  • Mushrooms, sliced

  • Dried thyme

  • Marsala wine or white cooking wine

  • Cornstarch or flour

  • Chicken broth

  • Garlic salt

  • Beef bouillon cubes, crushed

  • Heavy cream

  • Fresh thyme (for garnish)

Creamy soup just has something a little extra in the taste and texture and that is why I love to make them.  This crock pot cheesy ham and potato soup is another creamy sensational recipe that is sure to become a family favorite.

How to make cream of mushroom soup

  1.   2. Sprinkle cornstarch (or flour) over the mushroom mixture and mix until evenly coated.  Cook for 1 minute. Yes! Let the soup cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. It will keep in the freezer for up to 1 month. Reheat slowly on the stove and stir well before serving.
