How do you make Chili Cheese Dogs?

  • Heat oven to 425 degrees
  • Spread 1/2 cup of chili in the bottom of 10 inch skillet.
  • Place 2 Tablespoons chili, onions, jalapeños, cheese, and hot dog inside tortilla and roll.  Place seam side down into skillet.  Repeat for all hot dogs.
  • Add remaining chili and cheese.  Cover with foil and place in the oven.
  • Cook for 2o minutes or until cheese is melted and tortillas begin to brown lightly around the edges.
  • Tops with jalapeños, onions, cilantro, and sour cream.  Serve warm with a side of fritos.

Tips for making the Best Cheesy Chili Dog Skillet:

  • Make sure to use cheese that you shred, don’t use pre-shredded cheddar cheese.  It will not melt properly and will start to burn in the oven and you really want that gooey cheesy texture.
  • Feel free to add whatever toppings you want.  You could add more chili, avocados, corn, green chilis, etc.
  • Make sure to cover the skillet with foil lightly before baking to avoid burning the tortillas, chili, and cheese.
  • You can cut the Chili Dogs in half before serving and add some fritos or corn chips on top.
  • Both corn and flour tortillas will work for the chili dogs if your family prefers one over the other.

  • 5 Hot dog wieners (ball park size)
  • 5 corn or flour tortillas (6 inch)
  • 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • 3-4 jalapeños, diced
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • cilantro for garnishing
  • sour cream ( to dollop on top of each chili dog) optional
  • Fritos (optional)


  1. Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees
  2. Spread 1/2 cup of chili on the bottom of a 10 inch skillet.
  3. In each tortilla spread: 1 tablespoon chili, 2 tablespoons shredded cheese, 1 tablespoon jalapeños, and 1 tablespoon onions, and the hot dog.  Roll and place seam side down into skillet.
  4.  Top with remaining chili and cheese.  ( you can always add more of both if you want).
  5. Cover with foil lightly, and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and top with jalapeños, onions, and cilantro.  Serve with a side of fritos or corn chips.
