Beef stir fry is an easy recipe to make especially for families who are always on the go, done in 30 minutes or less each bite is savory and the beef is tender.  It seems like know matter how we try to plan our days and weeks things always seem to come up, so having some quick 30 minutes meals in our arsenal is so important, because when kids and “big” kids are hungry feeding them needs to happen fast. 

I love to stir fry and the list for what to add to your stir fry runs long and can be adjusted to your families likes and dislikes.  For this beef stir fry I used snow peas and threw in some sliced mushrooms to add a little crunch and texture.

How to make beef stir fry?

  2. Remove 1/2 cup and pour into a larger bowl along with sesame oil, ground ginger, and garlic.  Add beef to sauce and mix to coat.   4. In the same skillet add oil, mushrooms and onions.  Saute for 2-3 minutes.  Add in snow peas and remaining sauce mixture bring to a boil to thicken, then reduce heat.Sautéing mushrooms, onions, and snow peas in a black skillet and adding remaining marinade to skillet for easy beef stir fry.

How do you make stir fry meat tender?

There are a few good ways to make stir fry meat tender:

  1. Make sure to cut it into thin strips, cutting across the grain.
  2. You can pound the meat to make it flatter so it will cook faster and reserve more of it’s juices.
  3. You can use a meat tenderizing marinade.
  4. Make sure to cook it at the right temperature.

What does it mean to cut against the grain?

When looking at your cut of meat you want to identify which way the fibers (which is the “grain”) are running.  If they are running north to south then slice across the piece of meat rather than parallel to the to the grain.

What kind of meat is used for beef stir fry?

Often times you can find precut beef strips for stir fry in your local grocery store, which cut back on prep time, but if not some good choices of meat for stir fry are sirloin, tri-tip, flank steak, and ribeye.

How do you make beef stir fry with ground beef?

If you would rather use ground beef for your stir fry it is very simple.  Add your ground beef to a skillet  over medium high heat and cook until no longer pink.  Drain any fat.  Remove the ground beef from skillet and add in your vegetables and sauce, cook until vegetables are tender.  Add ground beef back to skillet and mix to blend all ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb top sirloin thinly sliced
  • ½ lb snow peas
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp garlic minced
  • ½ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil divided

Instructions
