I hope everyone is surviving the new year, I know I keep forgetting to write 2019.  How did that year go by so fast?  Well one thing is for life sure hasn’t slowed down and making meals like this beef taco skillet that is done in less than 30 minutes is what I am all about these days.  

Feeding our families is a priority and sometimes finding the time can be hard, but I promise, if you love tacos you will love this easy beef taco recipe.

All it takes is one pot, ground beef, cheese, tortillas, and a few other taco essentials and your well on your way to a delicious dinner your family will enjoy.

How to make tacos with ground beef

  1. In a large skillet over medium high heat cook ground beef and onions until beef is no longer pink about 5-7 minutes, drain. Two skillets showing how to prepare beef taco skillet.   2. Cut the corn tortillas into 1-inch pieces and add to the ground beef mixture along with green chilis, black beans (drained) taco seasoning, taco sauce, and 1 cup grated cheddar cheese.  Mix and cook until heated through and cheese is melted.   Top with remaining cheese and a tablespoon of sour cream mix and garnish with fresh pico de gallo and cilantro. Four images showing the steps to making beef tacos in a skillet. How to season ground beef for tacos

I like to cook ground beef with onions to add flavor along with a few tablespoons of taco seasoning and some taco sauce.  This creates delicious and juicy ground beef for putting in hard taco shells or tortillas.

How long does it take to cook beef in a pan?

Ground beef doesn’t take too long to cook, but you do want to make sure it is fully cooked.  Using medium-high heat cook it for about 5-7 minutes breaking pieces up and stirring often to cook evenly.

Making meals that are done in 30 minutes or less are the name of my game.  I want to be able to feed my family without having to spend all night in the kitchen doing it, and this beef taco skillet checks all the boxes.

It has tons of flavor, cheese, ground beef and taco favorites we all can eat and enjoy.  You can also use ground chicken or turkey if that is what your family prefers.

The great thing about making these beef tacos is you can customize them to your families likes and add in their favorite taco toppings as well.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 red onion chopped
  • 1- 4 oz can green chilis
  • 1-15 oz can black beans drained
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 1-8 oz bottle taco sauce
  • 10-6 inch corn tortillas cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp sour cream
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese divided
  • 1/3 cup pico de gallo
  • 2 tbsp cilantro chopped
