So I grilled my steaks on the BBQ and then added them to the skillet after roasting the mushrooms. Now don’t start to get worried that this recipe is too complex because it is actually super easy. Roasting the mushrooms only takes 25 minutes and you season them and then toss them in skillet and throw them in the oven.

How Do you make Garlic Butter Sauce?
You can make the Garlic Butter Sauce two ways:
- First, you can cook the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it starts to turn a golden brown color, then remove from heat and mix in the garlic, thyme and lemon juice and pour on top of the steak and mushrooms, or
- Secondly, you can mash 1 cube of butter in a large mixing bowl and add in diced garlic and fresh minced thyme. Mix until combined and then place on piece of wax or parchment paper, roll into a log and twist the end to seal it up.
- Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours or until the butter is firm.
- Slice a piece of the butter off and place it right on top of your grilled or seared steak. You can also spread on the mushrooms too.
How do you pan roast mushrooms?
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Toss mushrooms in oil, garlic salt and pepper, place in an oven-proof skillet or sheet pan in a single layer and roast in the oven until golden, about 25 minutes, stirring the mushrooms half way through.
- Drain mushrooms from cooking oil/juices if any. Keep in the skillet or transfer to serving bowl and pour the garlic butter sauce right over the mushrooms toss to combined. Adjust seasoning with garlic salt and pepper to taste.

How do you cook a steak on the grill?
- Make sure your grill grates are clean.
- Turn on your grill and spray the grates with grill spray so your steaks won’t stick. Let the tempurature get between 450 to 500 degrees.
- Season steaks with salt and pepper and put them on the grill and close the lid. Grill each side for 3-4 minutes depending on the thickness of the steak and then flip the steak to the other side and grill for about 3-4 more minutes. If you want a steak more well done, then keep it on the grill a little bit longer.

Ingredients:
For the Mushrooms: Garlic Butter Roasted Mushrooms
- 1 lb whole mushrooms, cleaned
- 3 tablespoons oil
- Garlic salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Steak:
- 2 New York Strip Steaks
- salt and pepper to season
For the Butter Compound:
- 1 cube of butter, softened
- 3 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 Tablespoon fresh minced thyme, and more for garnishing.
Directions:
For the Mushrooms:
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Toss mushrooms in oil, garlic salt and pepper, place in an oven-proof skillet or sheet pan in a single layer and roast in the oven until golden, about 25 minutes, stirring the mushrroms half way through.
- While mushrooms are roasting, cook butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it starts to turn a golden brown color. Remove from heat and mix in the garlic, thyme and lemon juice.
- Drain mushrooms from cooking oil/juices if any. Keep in the skillet and pour the garlic butter sauce right over the mushrooms toss to combined. Adjust seasoning with garlic salt and pepper to taste. While the mushrooms are roasting, cook your steaks.
For the Compound Butter:
- Place softened cube of butter in a mixing bowl and mash.
- Add garlic and thyme and mix to thoroughly combine.
- Place on a piece of wax or parchment paper roll into a log and put in refrigerator until firm. (I like to make this ahead of time, that way it is ready as soon as the steaks are done. You don’t have to let if firm up if you don’t want too).
For the Steaks:
- Clean grill grates and then spray with non stick grill spray.
- Heat grill to about 450 degrees and cook steaks for about 3-4 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
- Add grilled steaks to skillet with mushrooms and place 1 tablespoon of butter on top of each steak. Serve hot.
