Pea Salad Recipe

Do you use Frozen or Canned peas for pea salad?

  • Either, it is your personal preference.  I prefer to use frozen peas that have thawed out a bit because once you incorporate all the ingredients they taste perfect.  Canned peas are fine to use, they are much softer and will give the salad less of a freshness.  Make sure to rinse and drain the canned peas well before using them.

How do you make green pea salad?

  • Thaw 2-1/2 cups of frozen peas slightly.
  • Cook 8 strips of bacon until crips and crumble into small pieces.
  • In a large bowl add peas, bacon, 1/2 cup sliced red onions, 1-1/2 cups cubed cheddar cheese, and 1 cup shredded carrots, stir to combine.
  • In a smaller bowl add 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 1/4 cup zesty Italian salad dressing until combined.
  • Pour over salad and mix well to incorporate all ingredients, keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Is there an alternative to using mayonnaise?

Yes!  If you don’t like mayonnaise, but don’t want to loose the creamy texture you can use Creamy Ranch Dressing or you can make your own.
