When it comes to appetizers, delicious munchies, and all things food related this salmon ball recipe is going to be just what your party needs.  Packed full of amazing flavor with a creamy inside and little crunch on the outside.

Using pink salmon makes it light and even pretty to look at.  There is no fishy smell and by adding some prepared horseradish you get a little bit of a bang when you take your first bite.

This easy cheese ball is another great alternative to your party planning which is made with chipped beef, cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, green onion, and cream cheese.

Ingredients for a salmon cheese ball

All the ingredients needed to make a simple salmon ball for you holiday parties, by The Food Cafe

  • cream cheese
  • pink salmon
  • chopped onion
  • lemon juice
  • prepared horseradish
  • chopped dill
  • chopped glazed pecans
  • sharp cheddar cheese
  • crackers/pretzels for dipping

How do you make a salmon cheese ball?

  1. In a large bowl mix all ingredients together except the chopped pecans and half of the dill.
  2. Spray a piece of saran wrap with non-stick cooking spray to form mixture into a ball, then cover with saran wrap and place in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  3. When ready to serve roll the salmon ball into the crushed pecans and press remaining chopped dill into ball with hands.  Serve!

Can you make a salmon cheese ball ahead of time?

Yes.  This is a perfect appetizer to make the night before and keep in your refrigerator until ready to serve.  Just make sure to keep it covered in saran wrap and then let sit out about 20 minutes before serving to soften up a bit.

Is salmon good for you?

Yes! Salmon is rich in omega-3’s fatty acids, is a great source of protein, and is high in B vitamins and potassium.  Salmon is a healthy food to eat and may lower the risk of heart disease.

Is it safe to eat canned salmon?

Yes.  You can purchase canned salmon in your local grocery stores and it comes packaged in water or oil.  The option is up to you, but I like to buy my salmon canned in water.  It has all the benefits of fresh salmon as well.

You want to make sure it’s wrapped in Saran wrap to keep it sealed and fresh.

Ingredients

  • 3-6 oz cans pink salmon skinless, boneless packed in water
  • 8 oz package cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup sharp cheddar cheese grated
  • 1/3 cup white onion chopped
  • 1 tsp prepared horseradish
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup glazed pecans chopped finely
  • 4 tbsp fresh chopped dill divided
  • saran wrap
