This Oven Baked BBQ Chicken just got real.  Not only is the BBQ sauce sweet and spicy the very essence of the texture when you bite into it is out of this world. I love this recipe because it is simple and the perfect BBQ Chicken to make in your oven when grilling is not an option.

We all love a good BBQ and sometimes we don’t have the option to throw our chicken on the grill, therefore, insert this Oven Baked BBQ Chicken and its a win win.  You don’t loose that delicious tender chicken or bbq flavor. Your family will sure to love every finger licking bite.

Can you bake chicken with BBQ sauce?

Yes.  It is very simple and requires little work.

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Prepare a rimmed sheet pan with olive oil or spraying it with nonstick cooking spray to avoid the chicken from sticking.
  • Place chicken skin side down and season with garlic salt and pepper.
  • Bake for 40 minutes.
  • While chicken is baking make BBQ sauce and then baste chicken on both sides.  Bake for another 10 minutes and baste again.
  • Turn your oven to broil and broil chicken on high for 3 minutes.  Remove and baste with remaining BBQ sauce and serve.

How do you season BBQ Chicken?

  • The seasoning can be a combination of things.  I like to keep it simple, therefore making the bbq sauce the main source of seasoning.
  • For this recipe I used garlic salt and pepper and that is all.
  • You can use smoked paprika, garlic powder, seasoning salt (such as Johnny’s Dock Seasoning), cayenne pepper, chili pepper, cumin, the options are really up to you and what you like.

Ingredients:

For the chicken:

  • 1 package chicken thighs with skin
  • 1 package drumsticks
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • olive oil or nonstick cooking spray

For the BBQ sauce:

  • 3 cups original BBQ sauce of choice
  • 1/2 cup peach preserves
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 Tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons chili paste
  • 1 Tablespoon white vinegar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and liberally coat a rimmed sheet pan with olive oil or nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Place chicken on sheet pan, making sure to place chicken thighs skin side down.  Season with garlic salt and pepper and cook for 40 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, in a medium sauce pan combine over medium high heat  bbq sauce, minced garlic, brown sugar, chili paste, white vinegar and peach preserves.  Cook until boiling stirring often then remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Remove chicken from oven and baste with bbq sauce, flip chicken over and baste the other side.  Place back in the oven and cook another 10 minutes.
  5. Remove again, and baste with bbq sauce.  Turn your oven to broil (high) and broil for 3 minutes.  Baste chicken with remaining bbq sauce and serve warm.
