Who is ready to be wowed?  I know what your thinking, “chocolate gravy??”  What is chocolate gravy?  Well let me tell you, I felt the same way and then I made these Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits that my husband has been asking me to make for over a year now and it was pure bliss.  The combination of warm baked biscuits smothered in rich homemade chocolate gravy is phenomenal.  The whole recipe is so easy to make and what a treat for a Saturday breakfast or family dessert.  If you serve it along side some vanilla bean ice cream, watch out, it’s tastebud explosion.

I had never heard of Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits until my husband asked me to them.  He grew up in Alabama and ate them often, but they were a whole new world to me.  They really know what their doing in the South.  Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits are the real deal.  The Chocolate Gravy is also amazing over ice cream or frozen yogurt, or poured over a fresh baked batch of brownies.  Oh my goodness can you imagine?  Hot gooey brownies with rich and creamy chocolate gravy dripping of the sides, YUM!

How do you make chocolate gravy?

  1. Bake biscuits according to package directions and set aside.
  2. In a large sauce pan whisk together cocoa powder, flour, milk and sugar until almost all the lumps are gone. There may be a few, that is ok.
  3. Place sauce pan on medium high heat and cook stirring constantly until gravy begins to boil and thickens.  Once the gravy boils it will thicken quickly.
  4. Remove from heat and add butter, vanilla, and chocolate chips.  Mix together until butter and chocolate chips have melted.
  5. Pour hot chocolate gravy over baked biscuits, and garnish with more chocolate chips.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can Pillsbury Southern Homestyle Original Biscuits, baked to package directions.

Gravy:

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 Tablespoons flour
  • 1-1/2 cups whole mile
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Make biscuits according to package directions.

For the Gravy:

  1. In a large sauce pan add cocoa powder, flour, sugar and milk.  Whisk until lumps are mostly gone.
  2. Place sauce pan on medium high heat and cook stirring constantly until gravy boils and begins to thicken. ( This should happen fairly quickly).
  3. Once thickened, remove pan from heat and add butter, vanilla, and chocolate chips.  Stir until butter and chocolate chips have melted.
  4. Pour chocolate gravy over baked biscuits and garnish with more chocolate chips.  Serve right away.  (p.s.  these are also amazing severed with ice cream).
