Brown Sugar Bacon

Bacon is like butter, it just makes everything better!  Well this Brown Sugar Bacon is the easiest way to make the traditional bacon into something phenomenal.  Who new bacon could get any better?  I sure didn’t until I tried adding a touch of brown sugar, WOW, what a game changer.  It just highlights the amazingness of bacon as we know and love it.  Brown Sugar Bacon just screams eat me and don’t stop.  Not to mention what it does to your waffles or pancakes with warm syrup poured on top.  Oh my goodness what a treat.  The warm bacon baked and sprinkled with brown sugar and glazed with maple syrup, then diced up into little bite size pieces and placed on top of a stack of fresh made waffles and doused with more warm maple syrup, it is a must!  You will be amazed at how magnificent your waffles tastes with brown sugar bacon and maple syrup.

This bacon is not too sweet, but it is crispy on the outside with just the right amount of crunch and brown sugar goodness in every bite.  It’s a great way to add a little variety to a breakfast staple and you only need brown sugar to do it, now it doesn’t get much easier than that.  Make a little breakfast for dinner and cook up a batch of this Brown Sugar Bacon and once you do you will be making breakfast for dinner a lot more often I have a feeling.

Bacon in the oven

How do you make brown sugar bacon?

  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Put the bacon on the baking sheet and brush with pure maple syrup.
  • Sprinkle with brown sugar and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

Tips for making the best brown sugar bacon:

  • Using parchment paper makes for easy clean up, and the bacon will not stick to the parchment paper like it would if you used foil.
  • You can also place a cooling rack on the baking sheet and line the bacon on the rack and bake it as well.  That will allow the grease to drip onto the parchment paper and not settle around the bacon.
  • Adding spices to the bacon for a seasoning is delicious too.  I like adding cayenne pepper to give it a little spice and offset the sweetness.
  • Brown Sugar Bacon is amazing as a topper for waffles, pancakes, or even cupcakes.
  • You can use any type of bacon, I like the thick cut slices.
  • If you are not a big fan of bacon, you can make the same recipe with sausage links.
  • Using pure maple syrup gives the bacon a little more of a sticky texture because it is thicker than traditional syrup.  If you don’t want it sticky then use a thinner syrup like Mrs. Butterworth’s lite.
